Steps to Apply for an Emirates ID in the UAE

• You need to apply for any one of the approved service channels (ICP website, accredited typing centres)
• Review the application details and update your personal information if required.
• Attach the required documents to your application in case they are not available through institutional linkage.
• Pay the prescribed service fees.
• Individuals who are 15 years of age need to complete their biometric details, like their fingerprint and signature procedures, through the ICP service centres.

The Emirates ID card will be delivered to you through an authorised courier for the standard service. Or, you can visit and collect the ID card from the Authority’s centres for urgent service. 

How to Obtain an Emirates ID in 24 Hours (Fawri Service)

The service of getting an Emirates ID within 24 hours is called ‘Fawri Service’. The Fawri service is available for regular standard fees with an additional urgent service fee. 

The good news for everybody residing in the UAE here that with the Fawri service, anybody, from UAE nationals to GCC nationals, can get their Emirates ID for first-time registration, renewal, or lost/damaged ID cards. However, expatriates can only avail this urgent service in case replacement of their Emirates ID card only. 

To obtain an Emirates ID card within 24 hours, you need to do the following:

• Visit the customer happiness centres of ICP 
• Present the required documents for the Fawri service along with the fees

Required Documents for an Emirates ID Application

The documents required for an Emirates ID application are different for UAE citizens, residents, and GCC citizens. 

For UAE Citizens:

• Personal Photo

For Residents

• Passport
• Personal Photo

For GCC Citizens

• Passport

• Trade License
• Employees: Proof of employment from a competent authority
• Investors: Valid trade license from the authority or a property purchase contract from an approved developer
• A valid GCC ID card for individuals over 21 years old, or for one parent of the said individual

There are no dedicated eligibility criteria that would result in not being assigned an Emirates ID. Generally, the Emirates ID is a crucial government identification document that the following people should have legally in the UAE:

• GCC Citizens

The Emirates ID has a validity of 5 years for UAE citizens and GCC Nationals. For Expatriates, the Emirates ID can expire when their resident VISA in the UAE expires. As a result, Expatriates must renew their Emirates ID when they are residency VISA is renewed.
